'88 9kt. It is indeed a big job. I'm using the Haynes manual procedure, which leaves the A/C hoses intact but has you move that part of the ACC to the right (maybe I can get it to move 1/2 inch). Wiper motor, coolant hoses and throttle dashpot all get removed. I tested the fan motor after removal and it is very dead, but I suppose you could test it in the car quite easily by unplugging its connector and hotwiring to the battery.
Even with all the other equipment removed, it was tough to get the fan housing out of there. I was kneeling on the valve cover. It probably took me three hours just for removal. I noticed that the foam doors which control the flow of air over the heater core are degrading, and they have their own Saab part numbers, so I'm going to try to replace those. If I don't, the heat will be on all the time.
I also replaced the Darlington transistor in the ACC and took photos. Hopefully they'll turn out OK and I can put them on the BB.
