When I first try to start it after it has set for awhile or when engine is totally cool (not cold I'm from south Florida) It will not start the first time I try. Quite often it will start on second try but no always. After it starts, it doesn't always idle especially if engine is cool (say like first start of the day). More often after it has run some, it will idle right away but what it does do most consistantly is run rough when the rpm is running between 2000 and 3000, above 3000 it runs great, even if I punch the gas it just responds as it should. Of course the engine is often in the 2k to 3k range when you are changing gears. This car is an 88 9000s 16 valve standard tranny. (I think the s means it isn't turbo but in case I'm wrong the engine is not a turbo.)

We are a two car family now operating with one car and I really can't afford to pay someone to fix something I can fix myself. It has a new fuel pump, fuel filter, cap, rotor and plugs. I have fixed one vacuum leak and have capped off the small vacuum line on the intake manifold that goes to the charcole canister. I am not sure about the purge valve but by capping off the line then doesn't that take it out of the loop as far as fuel and ignition systems go. Sure could use some more ideas on what to try and how things work. I have a Haynes manuel and a Chiltons both have be helpful especially the Haynes but not near as help full and you guys on the BB. Sure am glad it found you.
