I've been perplexed by this problem ever since I bought my first 9000 3 years ago. I finally added a pushbutton starter to get the dang thing going when I don't have time to play games. Basic parts are a pigtail clip at the starter, enough wire to go fron the pusbutton (radio shack part) to the starter and from the battery (include a 30 amp fuse in the line here) to the switch. The only down-fall to this system is that you can start the car in ANY gear (be careful) but it has not let me down ever since I put it in.
I actually use it in leiu of the start position on the ignition (I.E. I never turn the key that far any more, just on and hit the button, You can hide the button anywhere you want (no one can start it but you assuming the key never works as mine does not any more).
On a more technical side, the wires involved are yellow and white/yellow from the ignition switch down throught the park neutral switch and out through the firewall through the big rotary connector in the false bulkhead.
Easy to follow /tough to diagnose and keep fixed because it's so intermittant. CW
