I just noticed a buzzing noise through the driver's front speaker in my 97 CSE: no noise in the other speakers at this time The noise is quite clear if I turn down the stereo. The sound increases in intensity as the RPMs increase, much like listening to an AM radio on a car which doesn't have resistor spark plugs [and should].
As suggested by Ben Millard, this has all the markings of a resistance problem. I replaced the spark plugs a couple of thousand miles ago, but don't recall hearing this problem until now. I know that these cars don't use resistor plugs (I have the recommended ones installed), but if not the plugs, then why would the stereo all of a sudden start acting up like this?
My 900 was 12 years old when I sold it, and other than a jammed tape (which was repaired by Clarion), it never did anything like this. And, the 900 was a convertable- grounding issues always seemed to exist, if only for a brief time.
