Well I bought an '87 9000 turbo for fun at the beginning of this summer. I bought the car for $400 after the hack I bought it from admitted that the PS rack didn't work. Soon after I bought it the slave cylinder failed and then it lived in the garage for ~5 months as I learned the art of removing the #$&%$^%$^$^%&^&^$&^ starter.
I bought the car because I loved saab, and because it was cheap. I had vauge hopes of learning ow to repair cars and now I feel that with enough time I could repair just about anything on the car. Parts can be very expensive, but if you know of a good junkyard you can get around that. The site sponsors are generally reasonable in their prices as well.
So what have I spent on the car?
$400 - purchase price
$100 - fluids, cleaners, rags, bolts, locktite, metric sockets, NGK sparkplugs
$ 35 - "rebuild kits" for master and slave cylinder
$120 - new clutch slave cylinder (didn't get the rebuild right for the slave!
$ 20 - new driver's side mirror and liqid nails glue
$ 30 - Indespensible British Haynes manual
Soon to be purchased:
$100 - new motor mounts and torque arm bushings
$150 - new power steering rack
