Hm... TCS dilemma

Hi,
As I've posted several times, I'm looking at a 93 9000CS Turbo with 115k miles. It has the infamous TCS, unfortunately. However, the owner said, and has records to prove, that he has faithfully maintained the car and always had the dealer fix up all the things that ever when wrong -- and if I know a dealer, they go for every little thing they can find!
SO, I think that the TCS is okay, but I'm not 100% sure. I see that the FAQ on buying a 9000 says to take the vin to a dealer and see if the recall service has been performed on the TCS components (like the throttle body).
My questions are:
1. How do I notice that there are problems with the TCS while I'm driving (does the computer tell me?)?
2. The FAQ talks about calibrating the TCS--what does this mean? Can I do it myself and how much time/cost would it take? How much would it cost for the dealer to do it for me, and how often should it be calibrated?
3. What happens if the TCS *does* fail--is the car driveable?
Thanks,
Tim B.
