I had a similar problem to yours when I put in my bushings. The bushing went in slightly cocked, and as it went in it made a small gouge in the inside of the engine bracket. The farther in the bushing went, the bigger the gouge became, sort of like a little bow wave of aluminum. I was short by about 1 and 1/2 inches. I had a tool (not the Townsend tool) with washers of sufficient size to mate with the bushing. But the force was so much that I would snap the threaded shafts.
If I were you, I'd try backing the bushing out. Mine was well and truly stuck, and I ended up cutting the bushing out (I had a spare) by threading a hacksaw blade through the rubber bit and putting two slices in the bushing's outside.
When I put bushings in, I stick a threaded rod through the bushings with a nut on each end, and stick the rod in an electric drill. Then, wearing a thick glove I hold a piece of wet Scotchbrite in the glove and hold the outside of the bushing while running the drill. Basically, I take a few thousandths off the outside of the bushing. Not only does this make it smooth, it allows it to slip in without the need for tools other than the light tap of a hammer. (I also cool the bushing down first - the heat of sanding it down expands it). The bushing doesn't need to be an Oh My God tight fit to work. Even if it had a few thousandths play in the bracket all would work fine and it wouldn't slip out (the dogbone prevents that).
So if you can get it out, sand it down a little, and make sure the inside of the bracket is nice and smooth.
Good luck!
