A year or so ago I aquired a 1978 Saab 99 Turbo with 94,000 miles on it, the interior is very nice and looks like a 5 year old car, its all there, it has some slight body damage on the the bottom of the front fender behind the front wheel, on the aft side of the front wheel arch. Also there has been some not to great body work done on the hatch and some paint comeing off here and there. The car was last registered in 1988 and parked in a carport here in washington since then. I was told it was because they thought that reverse had blown out but it has reverse its just a litttle tough to get it into it at times, i hear this is kind of a common issue with the gear shift linkage and not the actual transmission. The car starts up and drives a boosts good but will overheat after driving not that long. Car has the four original inca wheels with tires that were brand new in '88 with full tread on them. No i got it from a guy who was a friend of the owner who has now gone to Alaska and doesnt have a title nor a desire to go through the steps to get a new one or to get a notorized bill of sale (required in washington to transfer the ownership to me without a title). I have tried a few times and the only was i have found to get a title is to get one that is just good enough to send it to a junkyard, but not a real one.
I would really like to sell it as i have too many projects and this car is definently quite rare and in very good rust free shape and with a little bit of work could be made a real nice driving 99 turbo, a Legend!!
So the question is does any one know how to get a real title in washington state without the prior owner around at all? Or would anyone be interested in the car if i where to sell it in the classifieds or online somewhere AS-Is with no Title and just a bill of sale, Is it easier in other states to get a title for a vintage car then here?
So do you all think that anyone would want to touch it for what its worth if i sold it with no title?
Let me know your thoughts,
Saabnet, i am not selling this car here, i know thats against the rules i am just asking "what if" in this situation. Thanks.
