Scuff all the surface rusty looking spots with a Scotchbrite pad pretty aggressively, then give any exposed steel or cast iron that is inside the engine a good hose down with WD-40, and wrap it back up.

Once it's back together, change the first round of engine oil out after 20-50 miles if you're nervous about any solvents from the WD that are still down in little crevices, but all the volatile solvents should evaporate pretty quick, and just leave the lubricants behind.

If you're too nervous for that, just brush a thin coat of engine oil all over everything with a paint brush.

No sense getting everything that cleaned up, only to know it's started to corrode inside till you get everything back together.
