Thanks for the response.
My apologies, I should have been more specific. The electric fan and fuel pump are wired into a toggle switch. I was under the impression that the weak point for these cars was the water pump (mechanical), and many replaced them with electric units. Again, not extremely familiar with these cars. This is my first Saab (I have a few older Toyotas and Datsuns)...so this is definitely a learning experience.
And my car is a fuel-injected model. I live in North America. I am not sure whether or not it is a GL, GLE, etc...
A friend of mine had a parts car (grey market '79 99 turbo), so I removed the blower motor from it and installed it in mine. That was the problem. Mine was seized. The plastic piece below the motor appears to be a resistor and it was damaged. I am guessing that the damaged resistor caused a voltage spike in the motor which inevitably destroyed it.
But, like I said. Problem solved!
