AC Condensor damage mystery Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Sat, 31 Jul 2010 13:31:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Just before leaving for SOC I put a new clutch in the 77 EMS. Of course this requires moving the radiator and lifting/swinging the rad support with the AC condenser out of the way without disconnecting the hoses. Being me, I spent quite a bit of time straightening all of the aluminum fins on the condenser when I put the whole thing back together - it was pretty near perfect.
When I got back from SOC I happened to look in behind the grille and noticed that the whole front face of the condenser was covered with "dents" where something had hit the condenser and bent the fins in 30-40 places. I am quite sure this is way too much damage for insects, and although we ran through heavy rain that could have even had some small hail I don't see how it could have done this much damage without also damaging the grille or some other part of the car.
It all seems to still work fine, but I am mystified what could have caused this (a kid poking a stick through the grille? Too far back for a finger to work). Any ideas?
