Dan,
You can try cleaning them with Techron which is the standard fuel system cleaner. Best is to put them (in a bath of Techron)in an ultrasonic cleaner if you can find someone who has one. Dentists use them for cleaning dentures, but for some reason they frown on the after-hours use with fuel injectors. Ideal is to use the Saab/Bosch special tool for cleaning/testing injectors.
All that said, I've never had perfect success in cleaning injectors with a bad spray pattern or ones with leaking tips (all of which might be caused by gum/varnish/carbon deposits). I believe we figured out that new ones are $39 apiece so you might decide that's a "clean kill" with less aggravation.
Good Luck!
Gary
