I've often thought that if I ever dropped a 16v motor into a 99, that's the one I'd use. 140 HP, and no turbo to heat up an already cramped engine bay (not that I dislike turbos...).

Biggest issues are the firewall, which needs mods to let you work on the 16v (or even an 8V H motor) in the 99 engine bay, the exhaust, which would have to be a custom bent header, and your choice of fuel management. I'd personally go with LH jetronic 2.4.2 that came with the motor, but that's because I understand that, and it's not quite as scary as many folks think. But others have adapted the 99s CIS to the 16v motors.
