Should be a smooth continuous stream.
Have you been driving the car and it developed this issue, or has it been sitting for a long time?
Guess: If the delivery pressure at the injectors is too low I suppose it's possible that the injectors receive enough pressure to open the pintle valves, spray a little (which drops the line pressure), then they close up till line pressure comes back up high enough and they 'pulse' again, but I'd think for that to happen fuel pressure would be so low it'd barely run.
Definitely check the basic stuff first, check fuel delivery flow, replace the fuel filter, make sure there aren't any obstructions in the lines or that the pickup feed hose into the pump isn't crinked shut or something.
Could be a bit of junk washed into the distribution block.
If the injectors didn't spray a nice fine mist (there's a photo in that album I posted of what they should look like) try taking the injectors out and soaking them submerged in the most caustic sounding injector cleaner you can find, or maybe even Sea Foam top clean or something like that. Find the injector cleaners that say 'NOT SAFE FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTERS OR O2 SENSORS' and use those ones, that's the good stuff.
If that doesn't get you anywhere you'll have to get all the pressure components checked and adjusted if necessary to actually diagnose it.
