I haven't run across that in ages, but my mantra has always been that anytime the clutch is touched in a 99 or 900, everything gets replaced at the same time. Saab used to sell the clutch 'kits' for the 900 and that included: pressure plate, disc, slave, throwout bearing, pilot bearing. Anytime you take apart the clutch while the motor is still in the car, everything has to come out to change any one part. So, unless you're sure of the heritage of all the parts in there, best to replace everything, so you needn't do it all again for a long time.
Regarding the question at hand, if there is any doubt, change both the slave and throwout bearing together. I would doubt the old slave is still available. IIRC, the big difference was the rubber bellows you see in the picture. It keeps the throwout bearing in contact with the pressure plate, so that noise is reduced.
