Update on Fuel Return Line Check Valve Posted by Gary Stottler [Email] (#1463) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Gary Stottler) on Sat, 19 Jan 2013 16:20:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
As a follow-up to the thread below, I was finally able to get the check valve barb out of the return fuel line assembly above the rear axle. The short section of rubber hose crimped onto the end of the plastic line has gotten very hard with age and did not want to release the barb on the nipple of the check valve, so I had to make a little fixture with two open end wrenches to pull the nipple out of the hose.
The plastic check valve body separated into two pieces, in fact, I think that the overboard leak resulted from the failure of whatever adhesive they used to hold the pieces together. I guess after being exposed to gasoline for 35 years you can't complain too much about the plastic bit failing.
The nipples on either end of the check valve are 8mm in diameter by 19 mm long. The overall length of the entire check valve including the two nipples is 53 mm.
I went ahead and ordered a couple of the metal check valves we talked about previously from Dieselitems.com, so when those show up I'll give that a try.
