If I understand what you report, it sounds like the entire electrical system is sutting off. Could be a bad battery that is intermittently shorting or opening internally. However, I would start by checking that both ends of both battery cables are clean and tight. I don't think it sounds like an alternator issue, although I would check that the thick grey wire from the alternator to the fuse panel is tight on both ends. Sounds like you are losing a connection in the main power supply somewhere. Since jump starting seems to work it could be as simple as one of the battery cable connections to the battery.
