Scott,
Usually shuddering happens due to either oil on the clutch, which could come from the engine, the trans, or the clutch slave, or from the friction surfaces getting glazed due to wear, hi temperature, etc. So, it is an issue of the friction surfaces, not the sliding of the clutch release mechanisem. However, before you take the whole clutch apart to figure that out, make sure it is not an engine mount problem which can also cause similar symptions. The front mount (center, under the radiator) can be a problem in 99s and C900s and if it is loose or the rubber is shot, that can result in shuddering/bucking symptoms.
If not, then you are likely in for pulling the clutch out. I strongly recommend replacing the disc, the plate, the pilot bearing, and all the seals as well as resurfacing the flywheel. Painful and expensive I know, but otherwise there's no guarantee the problem won't still be there or return shortly.
Hope that helps.
Gary
