99 radiator thickness

Are the earlier 99 radiators thicker than the later ones? The reason I ask is because I have a new-in-the-box 99 radiator that I was going to have modified to go into my 96 V4 by having the 96 end tanks soldered onto it. This was a common Saab Sport & Rally modification back in the day. But the tanks themselves are thicker on the 96 radiator so I'm not sure if it will work.
