Tom,
I would strongly recommend using the later-style tool and service procedure. The earlier style pumps had steel teeth with larger teeth than the later ones which had finer teeth of cast iron and proved easier to break. I can lend you the tool on behalf of the Vintage Saab Club. I am travelling the next couple of weeks but can send it around June 3rd if that would work. The procedure outlined in the article you like keep is still good - you will need to get the sealing surface on your impeller remachined and set the impeller height per the procedure. You may need to but some gasket material from NAPA and make a new gasket. I hope that helps, let me know! Best, Gary
