As usual, I'm late to the party...
Type F in the automatic transmission is a must. I'm not sure why the owner's manual would say Dexron. The automatic transmission needs a certain amount of friction in it. This either comes from the type of fluid or the mechanical components in the transmission. If you put the other 'slippery' transmission fluids in your car the transmission will slip and wear out. Replacing again with Type F doesn't work well because the 'slippery' transmission fluids like to hang out on the mechanical components.
Amsoil makes a good Type F. I ran a C900 with a recent automatic transmission replacement and used the Amsoil fluid and got over 100K miles while doing stupid things with it (racing, towing, etc.)
Power steering is unique to the 99s with automatic transmissions. The pumps are Saginaw (used in a lot of American cars so there's information all over the internet about them). Saginaw originally spec'd ATF but eventually transitioned to power steering fluid. I've used PS fluid in a 99 with power steering. Again, I beat it pretty hard (2:1 steering quickener and racing on very tight/twisty courses). The junkyard pump I had lasted quite a while.
