I have a 115 amp alternator from a 9000 on my '76 99. My installation is more custom than on a stock 99 because I had to use the '80 900 (B engine) bracket (puts the tensioner on the other side of the alternator) because I'm also using an '80 900 power steering pump and bracket. But the main things you'll run into are:
1) The stock alternator uses a smaller diameter mounting bolt than a later 900 alternator (I think its 8mm vs. 10mm). At one point I think I had found some plastic spacers at the local hardware store that slid in and worked as a perfect bushing, but I think now that I rebuilt the setup last summer I think I might have drilled the hole in the bracket out wider and used the proper size bolt with a nut. If you want to know I can take a look tomorow.
2) The hole that the tensioner bolts to on a 99 is just a small tab off of the alternator. On the later 900 alternator that hole runs the whole length of the alternator (and looks the same as the hole for the mounting bolt). I think if you just use a longer bolt to attach the alternator to the tensioner you'll be OK.
I might have had a little problem with the larger diameter alternator contacting the bracket or the waterpump cover too. If so I think I just ground off a little material somewhere to make it fit better.
