A bad outer CV joint will make a clicking noise when turning instead of a rubbing, roaring noise. Usually if the boot gets torn, the joint will go dry and wear out the balls and cages, causing a clicking noise.
Might not be a bad time to go through the front end...new wheel bearings, clean and re-pack the CV's, new boots. That would make it good for another 20 years.
I had a bad bearing on the 75, but couldn't isolate the side, so I bit the bullet and replaced both of them.
Some pics are at the address below and some are linked. I had a friend at a shop I used to work at press the old bearings out for me. I could have had him press them in for me also, but they were closed when I was ready to install them, so I did it myself without a press. I wouldn't recommend my hammer method over using a press...too easy to damage an expensive bearing. That's why I bought the ebay bearing...because I thought I damaged one on installation.
