I did this swap on my '76. You can't use the 4 speed shift rod (between the tranny and the shifter housing) because of the way its bent. It won't allow you to get 5th gear. You need to put in a 5 speed shift rod, matching shifter (there were 3 different lower ball sizes for the shifter), and the lower plastic piece of the housing you already mentioned. If you can get all those parts from an '80 or early '81 5 speed car it will all just bolt in and you can use the shift knuckle (between the tranny and the shift rod) from the 99. The only thing you'll have to do is widen the rear mount for the shifter housing in order to move the rear of the shifter housing over 1/4" (toward the driver's seat), allowing you to get 5th gear (the '80 and early '81 5 speed cars had the mouting tabs welded onto the body in a slightly different position). If you can only get the parts from a later car, you'll have to get a little more creative. The later shift rod dosen't have a hole drilled in it for the taper pin that a 99 shift knuckle would use. You can either drill the hole in the rod and use the 99 shift knuckle, or you can cut the rod down shorter and use the 900 shift knuckle. The lower plastic piece of the shift housing from an '82+ 900 5speed won't fit the 99 mounts so you'll have to cut it a little bit.
