Well, my blue car didn't run for almost three weeks, almost making me want to put a for sale sign on it. It ran good for 20 miles one Sunday, but two days later......The starter would crank and the fuel pump was running, but the injectors didn't seem to be spraying. I'd pull the plugs and they would be bone dry. It actually did start twice in that same three week period, but diagnosing the failure was turning up nothing. I replaced all the parts with spares according to what the manual was suggesting might be the problem, but still no injection. I ohmed out every single wire in the engine bay and got good readings.

Then I wised up.....when I was at SOC90 in Sturbridge, MA....one of the vendors had the Bosch fuel injection tester for the d-jet sytsem(which plugs into the main 25 wire harness to the ECU....and with the service manual, runs a 4 page test on the entire system)....it tests each component individually for proper voltage or proper resistance. I don't recall what I paid for that machine, but it sure found my problem....which I don't think can be diagnosed any other way.

I ran through all the tests and was getting good readings for all of the components, until I got to one of the last tests. I set the dial of the machine on "valves", adjusted the gauge to read infinity, pushed the four buttons on the face of the machine one at a time, and used that test to measure the "resistance of the windings in the injectors with cable". The gauge showed the resistance over 3 ohms for all four injectors(I think I recall the readings were almost 10 ohms). The manual says to check the grounds to the injectors, which are at the battery tray. I took the grounding point off(for the second time....first time doing it over a week ago didn't fix it) and cleaned it real good, and the resistance came within specs. The car started right up after putting it back together. I'm happy again!

14 years I've had that machine and never used it. I guess it could have saved me two weeks of frustration if I'd of just hooked it up from day one.
