Funny you mentioned the "thrown back in your seat" feel of the 99T. I still have two 99Ts (100% stock) and was amazed at the sluggish of the 900 H and 16v engines in comparison. The 16v does have more power at top end, but it's also a pig lower down. The B engine turbo uses it own unique cam and low compression pistons (7.2:1) which might explain it. But I suspect that excuse of a 5-speed gearbox is part of the problem. They took a fairly good 4 speed and cobbled on an extra gear. The primary gear set at 15:34 versus 18:33 could be the problem. I wonder what the friction drag is between the 4 and 5 speeds? Anybody out there running a H turbo through a 4 speed?
It's too bad Saab never imported the sedan version of the 99T to the States. With about 100 pounds less weight, it must have been a rocket.
