What a stupid story I have to tell: I should write a book.

First things first, thanks for posting a messge Michael and yes, everyone is OK...purprisingly so as the whole McDOnald family was in that car when we collided at around 45 miles per hour. Here's how it happened: 5 lanes of highway, one being the proverbial suicide lane. Blue nissan slow in left lane heading east, Dan in precious '76 99 cruises along in the right lane. Nissan driver suddenly realizing she has just passed her insurance agents office decides incredibly to turn RIGHT from her left lane position. There was possible 2 seconds or reaction time available before impact. The nissan lost its rear axle and all the glass in the rear of the car (we collided in a T formation). THe 99 still has the grill intact (from a 73) and all H1 and H4 bulbs still there. The turbo airdam is still intact. The hood crumpled and the light surrounds (metal) crumpled as well...on both sides. THe d/s fender is toasty toast and the engine (probably the alternator) rubs on something near the firewall.

THe insurance company (State Farm) declared instant total and then without talking to me first, had the car towed to Greenville, about 40 miles away, to a "salvage yard"...though they insist that I recognize the car is still mine and safe. They called yesterday saying (now this is the 4th agent to be assigned my case, each subsequent agent from the first not aware of ANY discussions pertaining to the car made with the previous) "the numbers we have for you '76 99 GL put its worth at around 950 dollars." First off, it isn't a GL, and second, they obviously haven't LOOKED at the car: new paint, headliner, tires, dash, CD player, 10 disk changer, etc. Those things alone make 950 a laughable number. With the 2.1L high compression piston engine, big bore turbo, SPG intercooler pipes, Spg springs, Bilsteins all around, 900 rear axle, sway bar, fancy lights, fancy console and a host of other things, I just told them to start over and not to interrupt my day with such stupid numbers. My car wasn't perfect, but how many of you out there with 'Project" cars would accept 950.00 for it? I'm a bit stumped on just how to deal with the insurance issues but at this point, all I can do is just wait and hope they do the right thing. I've tried to gather all the information I can on worth but if anyone out there has ANY documentation on just what a car like this would generally go for, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks to all that have helped to this point, and if anyone knows of a good shell (2 door) pls let me know.

Dan
