Well, to be honest, I haven't run this engine more than 15-20 seconds since picking it up from the seller. It still has water leaks so until I pull the water pump and install the EWP I won't be able to really tell how it runs at operating temperature. However, for sitting since last January it does start right up - doesn't hunt for idle - and except for an exhaust manifold leak sounds pretty good (no miss - and no back fire). I think it's burning all the fuel just fine. Actually, after reading the link from DougM I guess I will move on to gasket replacement this weekend and just test the compression after I have pushed it back into service for a week or so.
Brently, I saw your readings of 200+. That’s great, but is it possible it’s too high? Some of these compression sites say to look for high readings too because it could be the result of carbon build up. Or with a warm engine is 200 something normal to shoot for. I read somewhere that these engines ship from the factory with 165-170 as the normal compression. Just one more thing to think about instead of sleeping :)
