If the old filler is cracking already, the last thing you want to do is spend money to have new paint and clear sprayed onto the roof. It will never stop cracking, and it will look like total crap in a few years...that's when the regrets would come in.

Since you have a parts car, why not cut out a piece from the roof of one of those. I mean, it's already contoured to the shape of a 99 roof. Take the grinder to the existing roof and remove all of the old filler, remove the guts from inside the car, then spot weld the piece from the parts car onto the 77's roof to cover the hole. Grind welds, a coat of duraglas, a few coats of bondo, some primer work, then paint it.

I was planning on doing this to the 75's roof, but the sunroof worked, didn't leak, and I had no full headliner board to replace the one with the hole in it, so it stayed.
