Large oil leak, front seal?

My car is leaking oil significantly, about 1 quart in 4 weeks. This is a new development. I just added oil stop leak today to the oil as a band aid.
It looks like it's either coming from the water pump weep area, or the front seal behind the crank. How can I be sure? Will the crank spray oil everywhere? I see some oil around the brake booster, possibly thrown from the crank area, but that's just a guess.
If it's the water pump, I know what I'm up against.
If it's the front seal, I have no idea what I'm up against. Anyone done a front seal? Did you have to pull the engine? Has anyone ever used a fluorescent dye with black light to trace an oil leak?
Thanks.
