Ok so it looks like what happened was the electric water pump was going into vapor lock and that's why the coolant was boiling over. I wound up taking it to a shop in San Jose that works on a lot of older model Saab's and who also discovered that the shift linkage work I just had done was not done correctly and needed to be replaced(it had already stopped going into first just a few miles after that work was done). There is a published protocol for this fix but the Saab-only shop did the work the first time did not follow that, they did something else by trying to adapt the wrong parts (so I've noe paid for this work twice). At least in the end I found a good shop.
