manual steering rack "fluid grease" Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Wed, 5 Nov 2003 13:24:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
ok, so call me nuts. I took everything else apart on this car(75EMS) and re-built or replaced it, so why not take apart a perfectly good steering rack for no other reason than to paint it black again.
Of course I was surprised to see oil leaking out when I removed one of the boots. My 74 rack that I put into the 73 wasn't filled with oil, it just used regular grease as a lubricant.
I checked the manual and it says to add 1.5dl of "fluid grease" and gave a part number which is probably obsolete by now. I did a google search for fluid grease and didn't come up with much. Anyone have suggestions on what I could use to replace it?. 80W90 would seem to be too thick. 10W30 or 10W40 might work as I've had good results using it in all of my transmissions. Comments and suggestions are appreciated.
