Brentley, are you accused of fowling the air in California? The verbage is tought master. The system you need to restore is the "pulse air injection system. In more accurate terms this is the secondary ( adding air after combustion) "negitive" pulse air injection system (negitive pressure is evident in each exhaust port after the big exhaust whoosh goes out of the cylinder. by inertia mainly ) This is a non powered system that self operates by itself. the 5/8 inch rubber hose carries fo filtered air over to just over the valve cover area where a one wat metatl valve is located on a braket. This stoppes the postive exhaust pulse from getting back to the aircleaner. this check valve then has a "U shaped splitted hose thad then directs this incoming air to each of the four pipes threaded onmt the exhaust manifold, these insert thru manifold to actually into the heads exhaust port. This system was called the "Federal 38 state version of polution control equipment. California and the high altituide stated got the Lamba system. So ypuust have the federal style that the emmission decal list your car was sertified for. and must be "visually" connected and working to pass. The emmission numbers are another issue separately. You have a 2 branch ecxhaust manidold and it sounds that you need the check valve and pipes and plumbing put back on. As far as emmissions readings, you need to detune the timing to 10 degrees idle, 15 degrees at 2K RPM and use a 3mm allen to move the co adjustment 15 degrees counterclockwise to lean the main mixture. The sec air systen had only a modest effect on the actual emm reading numbers .3 less on co and 100-200 on Hc's and 150 on NOX. Retarding timing will help bothe HC and NOX and after the retest you can reset tinint to 20 degrees at 2K rpm.
