John Collins has a '79 900 5-door that he gave up on because the fuel in the tank and lines turned to gel and it is a very involved effort to get it all cleaned out. If you're lucky this hasn't happened. I've had cars that sat for some time that started right up. A friend of mine bought a '78 EMS at a tow yard auction. He had several Saab keys in his pocket and while towing it home he stuck one of the in the ignition and it turned, so he popped the clutch and the car started up. We drove it around for the rest of the day. At some point he had a problem with it and I finally diagnosed it to be something clogging one of the fuel distributor passages, causing high pressure on one side and not allowing the air flow to lift the flap. I removed the line pressure regulator and sprayed carb cleaner through the passage between there and the upper chamber, and it finally cleared out and ran right. All of the literature from SAAB and Bosch says not to disassemble the fuel distributor, but I remember one of the mechanics at a Volvo place I worked for a short time having one of them apart. There are seals inside there that aren't readily available ... between the top and bottom of the distributor body ... but that's probably the best way to clean out a clogged distributor.
