It is very easy to convert a 99 system to vented discs on the front wheels. I have done this modification to my 1975 LE back in 2001 after returning from the international meeting in finland and the Festival in Trollhattan. There is a great change when you drive the car very hard' and the brakes don't heat up that fast. You will need ALL corresponding parts from a donor car' incluing the drive shafts and the tripods. The method of fastening the brake disc was changed on the 900 for MY 1981 and implemented to the 99 in the middle of MY 1982. It is easier to replace the disc on the newer design. The differences between spares for vented Vs nonvented front brakes of MY 1984 to 1987 are as follows: longer hub units, different brake discs, thinner brake pads, bigger and thicker yokes and caliper housings with wider grooves for the thicker yokes. The drive shafts of these years can be fitted to either vented or nonvented systems, and I didn't find any problems with final drive cups of any kind ranging from MY 1978 to 1993. My car is fitted with a MY 1993, GM45714 transmission with its' original cups.
Good luck,
Oren from Tel Aviv
