From the First 40 Years book:
"A new, low-priced 2-door saloon, designated the X7 and built especially for the neighbouring Scandinavian countries, was introduced towards the end of 1972. The high excise duties and sliding taxation scales applied in these countries created an urgent need for an inexpensive model to meet the competition from other less luxurious and more basic makes. After achieving major success in Denmark, the car was also introduced in Sweden, where it was available only with the 1.85 liter engine(developing 88 bhp DIN) and manual gearbox. The car was also distinguished from the most basic L models(which were fitted with the 2 liter engines) in that they were equipped with the seats from the V4(without electric heating), rubber floor mats, simpler instrumentation and more basic heating and ventilation system. The bumpers were of the earlier plain type instead of the new impact-absorbent design, while the wheels were a simpler type and trim around the windows was dispensed with. The model was about SKr2,500 cheaper than the cheapest 99L variant."
