I was in the Freeport Auto Parts junkyard at the dead end of Allen Range Road off Rte. 1 nearly to the Brunswick line yesterday, and spotted a Kool-Aid green (bad color choice for a re-paint) Saab 99 there, stacked up on top of another car. I was looking for 900s and didn't get close. Looked tired and long off the road but seemed to be all there. If you need anything it might be worth a visit.
The yard is basically a car-crushing operation, stacks them up all winter and is about to start crushing this week. The car is about 2/3 of the way in, towards the left as you go. Wear rubber boots - - it's a muddy mess everywhere.
It's a pull your own parts place, and prices are dirt cheap. He MIGHT hold off on crushing something you want pieces off, but don't count on it. He won't sell whole cars, doesn't have a license to sell cars.
The owner is John Ingerson, a man of few words. When he's running the loader feeding cars to the crusher he absolutely won't stop to say a word. So if he's crushing you pretty much have to wait till he takes a break or the end of the day to do any deals.
The idea is, you get to just wander in and pull whatever you want and drag it back up to the office. You can build a stack there, and leave the parts even for days if he's too busy to do a deal with.
Si at Back Bay Auto on Presumpscot Street in Portland, an ice racer, also has one 99 parts car there, on left side of the building along with the 900s and 9000s.
