I looked at it yesterday, wiggled the fusebox, wiggled the wires going to the alternator itself, and now it's fine. I suspect a ground somewhere, due to the wiring in my frankencar (89' t16v transplant) which needs to be redone. I'm thinking of completely starting over with it all, new fusebox (with the modern ATC fuses) and relays, perhaps relocated inside the car to free up a little space under the hood.
thanks for the advice
