So I've been saving up for the final stage of my ems resto - PAINT. I want a pretty decent paint job, so it's going to be a while until that can happen. In the meantime, I covered it in black primer and it looks ok, but I'm getting sick of it. I actually tried spray painting this Rustoleum bronze Hammered metal stuff on my parts car trunk and I got a little excited! This stuff sorta works cuz it's not trying to be a smooth glossy finish, it is what is says - Hammered Metal. If you're into a little bit of a funky look, it might work (for a while.) Getting it on evenly was the challenge, but the bronze-silver color is pretty cool.
Then I came across this website that actually details the steps to ROLLER ON A PAINT JOB!! (see link). The long and short of it is to use either a single-stage Poly-urethane like Topside boat paint or an oil based enamel like Rustoleum professional high performance protective enamel and apply thinned out coats with a dense foam roller to achieve a fairly good looking paint job. Of course the results are going to depend upon how much prep, priming, wet sanding and polishing you do, but for under $100, this seems like a great short-term solution.
My ems is silver with burgundy interior, so I have to be careful about the colors working together. There really are no good metalics available with the above mentioned products (except "aluminum"). Does anyone know if there is a way or product to clear coat the surface over another color to achieve a good effect. Again, this is all a temporary fix, but worth consideration.
