Scott, when I stripped down my '74 there was quite a bit of factory bondo along the driprails to cover up the roof panel as it was installed. Especially in the rear quarters. It was all blue greenish. Saab was a small company, and I would think the use of bondo to aid in production errors was used a lot more than people realize. It's not a big deal. As far as that hail story goes,I'm not a believer of it. If not a myth, so exaggerated over the years it has certainly turned into one. The bodyshop would have to use some bondo after a strip anyways. If it wasn't noticeable before, it shouldn't be that much more work to prep for paint than they would have had to do. It sounds like they are trying to hose you by pointing out some bondo.I think I can safely say he isn't planning on using any lead for your paint prep. I happen to have an antique lead working settup, and most body shop guys wouldn't know what it was if you showed them. Yet, they'll beat you up on the bondo they use everyday. You might want to go to another shop. Best of luck.
