That sounds just like what my Fairlane does, and dried out seals in the transmission are the culprit. One bad seal will allow the fluid in the torque converter drains back into the pan overnight, and it takes awhile for the pump to fill it up again in the morning. Another bad seal will prevent pressure from building up in your valves to engage the clutches. From the mileage you show I'm guessing you don't drive the car much, and in older Fords this is a very common problem for cars that sit around.
