If you do a quick search for "A/C" you'll find a post by Oren Kipnis where he gives some of the details of his setup. He is in Israel and deals with heat that you will most likely not deal with. Whatever he has works for him.
As far as adding it to your car goes, I have heard of some using vintage air products to create a system that works with the air ventilation system already in the car. I found the info looking around aimlessly online a few years back. Seemed to work well enough. The problem with what was originally put in 99s is that it was totally self-contained. It required cutting a few holes in the firewall here and there and absolutely zapped the foot space for front passengers. It worked fine if a second fan was added and generally folks seek out a newer, more efficient compressor, but if your turbo is as pristine as you've been saying, I would venture that the cutting and such is just as much at the core of why a "saab mechanic" would try to push you away from it.
This is a completely irrelevant comment coming here as I know the question is about how to get AC in the car. I just have to say that I have lived in the deep south and in the deep of OHIO for the last 5 years and I hate AC to the core. It is a nice break from time to time...sure. No one likes being hot all the time, but it has never been a necessity. I like driving with the windows down. i like thinking the moonroof is there for something other than to reduce headroom. What did people do 35-40 years ago when AC was purely a luxury item? When I'm in New Orleans, nothing feels right with AC. A restaurant that runs it is a drag. I'm missing something if it doesn't have the windows open and the ceiling fans blowing. That being said, I'm retarded. My wife thinks I am and when we go on trips she wins and I freeze. But is AC REALLY, REALLY all that important?
Either way, I'd suggest you look for that info on the web...seemed the system just replaced the heatercore area with something that looked stock and blew chilled air through the regular vents. Vintage air will probably have something that works. You may want to go with a bigger/better radiator and look into an intercooler set-up to help with heat soak from the turbo. It's worth sorting out.
