Some '74 99s in the US came with a Zenith-Stromberg side-draft carb. It should also have a mechanical fuel pump mounted on the side of the engine block. It also has a different distributor, as the carb cars didn't have the set of trigger points for the injection system. The early (Standard Triumph 1.7cc and 1.85 cc) engines had a Delco distributor. I can't remember if the 2.0 had a Delco or Bosch distributor.
As long as the diaphragm in the carb is good, and you keep oil in the plunger (under the plastic screw cap on top of the carb), these carbs are reliable. We used to use ATF in the plunger. You can also use something like Magic Mystery Oil.
A friend of mine has/had a 99 with a two-carb manifold from a European c900 on which he had two large SUs (used on 6-cylinder Jags for years), instead of the Strombergs. He was having problems with getting it to run properly. It might have the wrong jets. The Triumph TR-6 used two of the Strombergs that are used on the 99.
In doing a conversion on a D-jet injected 99, the fuel pressure from the electrical pump is way too high, although your could probably get away with rigging up the pressure regulator from the injection system, hooking it up to the return line to the tank.
