My '73 LE came with a 2.0 as well, but it suffered an engine comparment fire at some point and was swapped over to K-Jet injection, I imagine that the 2.0 was put in at that time as well. It should have originally had the 1.85L.
John is correct in that a lot of the structure is very similar to the C900s, I started with those as well and am just learning my way around the 99.
Check for rust in the same usual places as the 900, plus up around the base of the windshield where the cowl snorkel is, down around the lower a-arm pickups, the floors, stuff like that.
If it starts and runs and drives and feels fine you're a good bit ahead of many of us bumming around on here!
I have also been finding that this 99 board is as active or more so than the performance board, which was very reassuring to me.
Doug, I haven't gotten photos up and won't have time till later this week, but I actually did end up getting the early itty-bitty inner drivers and early halfshafts from my '73 to fit just fine in the '78 gearbox I had. You have to change the diff to the early one to get the old style diff support bearing and keep the ring gear matched to the pinion, but they bolt right up. I'll start a new thread when I get a chance, I took a ton of photos to catalog everything, so maybe you'll be able to use a few more of your early boxes?
Best,
Drew
