Turn signals/electrics question

I have noticed that my turn signals are working sporatically; sometimes blinking slowly, sometimes normally, and with the headlights on; not at all. I noticed over the last week or so that the left turn signal would light the light on my dash, but the right signal would only light the dash light for about the first five blinks or so and then stop but the blinker sound would still work.
My maintenance free battery is less than a year old, my alternator is less than a year old (an upgraded model from chip), new ground strap also. I did have my front turn signals apart when I sent the car for some paint work. I had the bulbs out, but couldn't get the housings loose from the harnesses, so I left them tucked in the fenders. I don't recall noticing this problem before fooling with the front turn signals in the removal process. Outside of unscewing the assemblies, all I did was remove the bulbs.
Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Randy
