Sounds like you have nothing to lose. Odds are that it needs a total rebuild. But, I would try to unbolt the shifter tranny plate (Did that make sense?,) and pour in some PB'laster. Let it sit, then keep trying to rotate the selector shaft. You might have to look to find it in a half gallon, but I saw a vendor selling the fluid in gallon containers at Carlisle.
It can't hurt.
