What size holes are you patching? Any in places that have structural requirements? Floors are structural on Saabs, this could matter if you are replacing large sections. Any in places that need to match visually, ie visible body panels, or just stuff like floors that you won't see? Generally, any sheet metal (ie mild steel) of similar thickness to the original should be fine, don't go thinner, maybe easier to go a little thicker. Probably easier to cut patches a little larger than your holes, then lap-weld from above, then apply seam sealer (auto body store) to the backside, than to put in exact-size panels. Practice a whole lot on stuff that doesn't matter, until you have confidence. Welding to rusted metal will be harder & maybe impossible if it is rusted too thin. Keep a fire extinguisher close. Be careful about gas tanks & fuel lines. Good luck.
