I got the 95 out of the shop yesterday late afternoon. After a quick "how to drive it" learning curve, I sputtered down a main boulevard to get to the tire shop before it closed and had 4 new 165R15 Jupiters put on it. I say sputtered, because it died 4 or 5 times on the way down. Thanks to rush hour traffic and hitting every red light I passed, I was able to restart each time until I limped into the first gas station. I filled up with a little over 6 gallons (hmmm) and then had a mild panic as I saw fuel dripping out from under the filler area. I noticed a rather brittle overflow tube, and it appears to be the source (whew!).
It was getting dark when the tires were on, and that's when I realized I had no regular beams -- just the high beams. And they don't stay on without holding the stalk back, so I just cruised up the same blvd. with my parking lights on (fit right in in this neighborhood). Made it to my fiancee's house with no problems.
This morning I fired it up so I could replace the mufflers at lunch today. I just got back from the muffler shop and NOW I can hear the drivetrain and other assorted standard vehicle noises.
I'm beginning to see why you guys like these things, and why my fiancee thinks they're so cool. Now that I have it running (I won't even mention the cost so far), I can take my time in cleaning it up and doing little restoration things here and there. As far as I can tell it's remarkably complete. Once I get the chance I'll post new and extensive photos on my website. And then I'll start asking even MORE questions.
This freewheeling stuff is strange.... but I'm getting used to it.
