Depending on make and type, some electric fuel pumps will only run as long as necessary to fill the carb float bowl.
Pull the fuel line at the carburetor, point it into a jar (or at least *away* from the engine), have someone turn the key to the ignition on position, and see if you get fuel from the line. Replace the line.
Does the car start and run? (You didn't actually specify.) If not, and you get a steady stream of fuel (as above), then clearly there is some other problem.
