The bolt that holds the transaxle to the mount is accessible from inside the car, but I think the only way you can take out the mount itself is to go forward with it (unless you're willing to cut the firewall.)

Don't worry, now that you've got the engine out, removing the transaxle isn't such a big deal. Disconnect the linkage, pull back the rubber boots over the inner U-joints, unbolt the lower ball joints and swing out the hubs to retract the driveshafts out of the U-joints (don't knock the bearing caps off the T-pieces!) and out she comes. Don't be surprised if the transaxle spigot has bonded onto the rubber of the mount, in which case you have to yank/wiggle it until it comes free.
